Racing round up
Toby Neave won his third elite race of the year at Portsmouth track to take a commanding lead in the Ray Martin series.
Mark Trevis was 20th and Shaun Smart 24th in the same race. Toby writes ... "Due to having no spotlights the judges cut the race down to 50 laps. After 12 laps 2 riders went clear, and shortly after i jumped across with Phil Sykes. With some fast guys left in the bunch(inc dave sinclair, justin hoy and matt rowe) we didn't hang around. I piked up loads of prime points, and with 10 laps to go we were told not to lap the field by the judges, because they would've got all confused at the finish. So it ended up in a group sprint, which i duly won for win no.3 this year."
In the 3rd cat race Andy Page, edged ever closer to his second cat licence with 10th place. Andy is now third in the overall points. Mark Dinwiddy was 16th, Fraser Nurse 20th, Rob Fields 21st and Mark Warrington 31st.
Mike Marchant rode the Brighton Mitre Easter weekend TTs. He was placed 3rd veteran in the 25 to win a bottle of wine and an easter egg! Mike writes ... "I've just ridden the Brighton Mitre Easter weekend; this consists of a 'sporting' 10 on Saturday (at Kirdford) and a 'hilly' 25 on Monday (Devil's Dyke, Brighton). I managed 25.32 for 12th place in the 10 and 1.07.45 for 10th place in the 25 including a prize for 3rd veteran (bottle of red + an Easter egg!).
I'm fairly happy with those results (and prize!) although they are testament to my ageing bones (I won both of these events in the mid-90s in much quicker times!). Perhaps next year we can enter a (younger and fitter) team, how about it?"
Next PTTL
Mike Marchant writes about the next Portsdown TT League event ... "Here's a gentle reminder about the forthcoming PTTL 50 mile TT on 17th May. The entries close on 7th May, so if you intend to ride I need your name, age and date of birth by 6th May at the latest.
A word of caution, there have been 'comments' made about the SDV non-starters in the the 2 previous events! (We're not the only ones, by the way). If you want to ride, please enter with a definate intention to ride - regardless of the weather on the day! In fairness, a no-show does mess the organisers and other participants around, not to mention potentially undermining our useful overall team position.
My contact details are in the members section on the club web site."
ICE
Mike writes again ... "I've just had this message passed to me by the Hon. Sec. of the CTT South DC. It's not new, we got it at work some time ago now, but it is worth considering - I've done so...
A MESSAGE FROM THE AMBULANCE SERVICE
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.
The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In
Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE'.
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc."
