    Club night

It's club night on Sunday, 1 February at 8pm. The back bar of the Fountain, South Street, Chichester.

    New racing season

The new road and time trial racing season starts soon. Toby Neave represents us in the annual season kick starter at Perfs Pedal Race on Sunday, 8 February at Rowlands Castle.
There is always a large crowd out to watch and last year it was like a summer's day. The full start list is on the London Cycle Sport website.
Time trialling starts in February too and Mike Marchant has prepared a list of recommended time trials. You can find the list on the website in the Time trial calendars section.

    Time trial guides

Mike Marchant has published a revised version of his guide to time trialling and some advice from the CTT. You can find them in the time trialling section of the How do I? page.

    Wessex Cycle Racing League

Toby writes to tell us about the new WXCRL. WXCRL means wessex cycle racing league.

It's a new set up which is trying to emulate the Surrey League, but in south/south west.

The races are mainly at Barnsfield Heath (near Ringwood), which is a closed circuit owned by the MOD. It's fairly similar to Chertsey, but a bit more interesting!

To join is £10 a year, and races are usually £15 to members, £20 non. Personally I think this is a bit steep, but the cost of hiring a MOD circuit is astronomical, compared to Pompey which is free.

All races carry extra points which are translated into prizes at the end of the year (hopefully).

I shall be concentrating on this league because it looks interesting, and if everyone gives it a chance then hopefully they'll promote more races on the road next year.
    Details here.

    Last cross

The last cross of the season is on Sunday, 1 February at Stanmer Park, Brighton. Kick off 1pm. Details on BC website.

Le Mans 24 hours ... by bike

Simon Pattinson has expressed interest in forming a team to take part in a Le Mans 24 hour race on bike.
It will be the first time that the Bugatti Circuit will host a 24 hours cycling race. This event is held on August 22nd and 23rd, 2009 on the legendary Bugatti Circuit. The race is open to all bike riders (members or not of a Cycling Federation) and can be competed as a single competitor, a pair or teams of 4, 6 or 8 members. Your club members may want to take part to this incredible real-life adventure and live the magical experience of a race around the clock on the Bugatti circuit. It will be the opportunity for them to reach a personal goal or to take on a team challenge in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

    Racing round up

Four hardy chaps faced the starter in the annual Bognor Regis Boxing day time trial. Member Fraser Nurse placed 4th.
I had an interesting day at Southampton Sports Centre on Sunday. I warmed up on my Colnago and decided the head set needed tightening. It's quite a way back to the car so I set off at high speed across the bone hard grass. I didn't realise what I thought was a gentle undulation was a steep incline until it was too late. I went straight down where the forks promptly snapped at the Carbon/Aluminium join. I landed on my head, but it was my ankle the really hurt.
I whizzed back to my spare Alan (old bendy) and swapped the wheels over just in time for the start. A great course for me as there was lots of bends to sprint out of. I rode my second best race of the season to finish 22nd, which doesn't sound great but there was a huge turnout of the Hargroves fast boys.
